Rocket science? Relating Innovation to Entrepreneurship in the Space Industry (with Alain Fayolle, Alistair Anderson, Sarah Jack and Wadid Lamine)
In this research, we examine entrepreneurship in the space industry. Drawing on the institutional literature, our theoretical framework engages with the structures and context that shape entrepreneurship. Our research interest is in the dynamics of innovation and entrepreneurship in a leading-edge technologically driven industry; looking at how this regulated context developed and shaped entrepreneurial practice. Our potential contribution is to understanding the impact of institutions, and to theorize how entrepreneurial agency is constrained by institutional structures, but also how agency maneuvers around structures. Conceptually, we propose that how agency is institutionally situated explains the extent of entrepreneurship possibilities, almost regardless of innovation. Hence it is possible to have innovation without entrepreneurship.
